'Hem of Memory' is a new moving image installation by Ettore Siracusa. A two-channel video installation that re-maps cultural, cinematic and personal histories of migration, the work forms part of Ettore Siracusa’s ongoing excavation and anatomy of Giorgio Mangiamele’s feature length neo-realist migrant drama 'Il Contratto'. 'Hem of Memory' re-situates scenes from a video documentary interview with Halina Kisilevski (2008), the female lead of 'Il Contratto', together with reconfigured visuals from the archival film, spoken poetic text by author Hazel Smith, and a composed sound score - set inside a tailor shop in North Carlton. The installation work will be launched at an event on Tuesday 18 September. Ettore Siracusa will be in conversation with Chris Luscri followed by a Q&A with the audience, as well as a live performance by cellist Katherine Philp accompanying scenes from the film 'Il Contratto'. This event is free but you must RSVP - Light refreshments will be served. The exhibition runs from 10 September to 20 October 2018. Supported by the City of Melbourne Arts Grants Program.
