How to apply

Applications are now open for the 2008-09 Round Two: Multicultural Festival and Events Grants program. The purpose of these grants is to provide financial support to major festivals, conferences and/or special ethnic community events that aim to:

· encourage the participation of the whole community in celebrating and valuing cultural diversity;
· promote awareness of cultural diversity, community contributions, mutual respect and understanding;
· address a major issue through a conference or special event.

Schools are encouraged to apply for funding for activities held during Celebrate our Cultural Diversity Week (17-23 March 2009). Activities planned during this week and for Refugee Week (15-21 June 2009) will be given priority.

Applications must be submitted by Friday, 10 October 2008. The festival or event must be held between January 2009 and July 2009.

Assessment Process

The recommendations of the Commission are presented to the Minister Assisting the Premier on Multicultural Affairs and the Premier for approval. The assessment process eight weeks to six months from the application closing date depending on the type of grant. Each group is notified by mail to indicate if they were successful or unsuccessful in receiving a grant.

Branding

Groups that receive a grant from the VMC should ensure that the Commission receives acknowledgement in all publicity relating to the grant. The Commission can be acknowledged by: including the VMC grants logo on promotional items; acknowledging the Commission’s support in writing (eg: Proudly supported by the Victorian Multicultural Commission); and verbally in speeches/announcements.
