The Community Strengthening Team at the Victorian Multicultural Commission are currently delivering information sessions and grants writing workshops across Victoria. On Tuesday 23 October, the team presented to members of the Bendigo community including the local Karen and Chinese communities. After the presentation, the team visited the Golden Dragon Museum in Bendigo and had an opportunity to see the hard work of the Chinese community in sharing history, culture and the successful legacy of Chinese migration to Bendigo as well as Victoria. The museum hosts some incredible pieces including a coin collection with a piece from the first Chinese Emperor's reign in 220 BC.
On Wednesday 24 October, the team presented to the Shepparton community and had an opportunity to hear some about some of the great projects being undertaken and planned in this regional hub. A very warm welcome was extended by the whole community to the team and we hope to return soon to visit and follow up on the great community projects running. Members of the Iraqi, Congolese and Hazara communities kindly volunteered their photo for the E-News pictured here with a member of the Community Strengthening Team, Laura Duncan.
