The Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) is excited to announce many new activities for Victorians to get involved in celebrating Cultural Diversity Week 2017.
VMC Film Festival
The brand new VMC Film Festival is welcoming entries from young people to share their perspective on multiculturalism through the power of film. Finalists will have their films screened from 5pm at Victoria’s Multicultural Festival in Federation Square on Saturday 25 March 2017 and have the chance to win fantastic prizes or professional development with leading industry mentors. Enter before the competition closes on Wednesday 8 March 2017.
A new music event for Victoria’s young people, Culture Waves will follow the VMC Film Festival at Victoria’s Multicultural Festival from 7pm to bring young, multicultural sounds to Cultural Diversity Week. In its headline performance, Culture Waves will feature the soulful rhythms of fast-rising hip hop artist Remi, who will be joined by uplifting indie pop outfit, Yeo, and gospel to R & B fusion masters, Billy Davis, for one night of incredible music at Federation Square.
Stay tuned for the full program of Victoria’s Multicultural Festival on Saturday 25 March, to be released shortly.
Primary Schools – Art Competition and Resource Kit
Each year the Primary School Art Competition aims to inspire our youngest Victorians with Victoria’s cultural diversity.
The competition is now seeking entries from budding young artists at Victorian Primary Schools with two fresh categories for film and photography as well as illustration. Students are asked to explore the theme, ‘What’s your multicultural story?’. Students should submit their entry before the competition closes on Tuesday 7 March at 12 midnight.
Schools can also find a range of exciting activities inside the new Teacher’s Resource Kit to engage students in Victoria’s cultural diversity.
