Promoting Harmony

    Victoria has a multifaceted approach to multicultural and multifaith diversity, based on encouraging greater understanding and dialogue between all cultural and religious groups. Under the Promoting Harmony Initiative, the Victorian Government has allocated a total of $4.1 million from 2006-2010 to strengthen and promote Victoria’s multifaith and multicultural diversity.

    This initiative aims to foster formal dialogue between community leaders, young people and the Government and support a wide range of community-led initiaitives such as:

  • Premier’s Multifaith Leaders Forums for Victoria’s faith leaders to develope opportunities for interfaith activities and multifaith dialogue.
  • Multifaith Multicultural Youth Forums for young Victorians to share their views about key issues affecting young people and create project ideas to address these.
  • Multifaith Advisory Group to ensure ongoing dialogue between the Government and Victoria’s faith leaders.
  • Multifaith Multicultural Youth Network (MMYN) to provide advice to the Victorian Government on multifaith, multicultural youth issues and initiatives for young Victorians.

  • A $400,000 Multifaith/Interfaith grants program to support interfaith networks and multifaith projects.
  • Women creating Harmony Grants program to fund women-led community based projects that build respect and understanding for cultural and religious diversity.
